PhD in Perspective offers PhD students a focused day of training on skills and perspectives that are essential for successful and sustainable academic careers. The annual theme day brings together participants from several universities through three online or hybrid sessions, with optional local networking and peer-mentoring activities.
The programme combines three complementary topics: impactful research, sustainable careers, and resilience in academia.
- In the first session, led by Dr Andrea Kofler (FHNW), participants will learn how to integrate an impact-oriented perspective into their research, identify opportunities to fund research with societal relevance, and strengthen the practical case for the value of their work.
- In the second session, led by Agata Przyborowska (UWM), they will explore strategies for managing pressure, setting boundaries and maintaining productive, sustainable working practices.
- The third session by Dr Joana Ramalho (UEL) on navigating error and rejection addresses an often-overlooked aspect of academic life: how to respond constructively to mistakes, critical feedback and setbacks, and use them as opportunities for learning and professional growth.
By connecting research skills with personal and professional development, the training encourages PhD students to approach both their research and academic careers from a broader perspective.
